Our approach to jig and fixture design centers on maximizing production repeatability and operator efficiency through sound mechanical engineering principles. Using SolidWorks, we model complete fixture assemblies that implement the fundamental 3-2-1 locating principle—constraining all six degrees of freedom to ensure consistent part positioning—while incorporating quick-release clamping mechanisms and ergonomic operator access. We integrate mistake-proofing features (poka-yoke) that physically prevent incorrect part loading, utilize standardized modular components to reduce tooling costs, and carefully consider machining forces and tool clearances throughout the design process. Our detailed manufacturing drawings provide toolroom machinists with precise specifications for fabricating fixtures that maintain tight tolerances and withstand sustained production use, ultimately reducing setup time and improving quality consistency across high-volume manufacturing operations.
